Dead People Could Be Brought Back to Life, Thanks To New Biotech Experiments

An Institutional Review Board at the National Institutes of Health in the US and in India has given its approval to Biotech companies Revita Life Sciences and Bioquark Inc. for a possible groundbreaking trial to see if it is possible to revive dead people’s brains, The Telegraph reports.
Through the use of different therapies, the company will try to revive dead patients who are certified dead and only kept alive through life support. These therapies include injecting the brain with stem cells and a cocktail of peptides, as well as deploying lasers and nerve stimulation techniques that have been shown to bring patients out of comas.
The patients will be monitored for a number of  months using brain imaging equipment to look for signs of regeneration, especially in the upper spinal cord- the lowest region of the brain stem which controls independent breathing and heartbeat.
The team is of the opinion that it is possible to revive dead people’s brains as the brain stem cells may be able to erase their history and begin life again, based on their surrounding tissue – a process seen in the animal kingdom in creatures like salamanders who can regrow entire limbs. There's a new skin disease in Calabar recently which is gradually turning into an epidemic.
More than three hundred & fifty cases have been reported in the UCTH. People affected are complaining of itchy and swollen skin, headache, and abnormal abrasion on the skin surface.
Interviewing a doctor at the general hospital on phone, he intimated that even some of the staff under him have been affected by the surge in this skin diseases. He reportedly said that the disease affects the nodal part of the part especially in between fingers, toes, the lower part of the armpit, and over the rips. Some people are affected seriously around the thighs and pubic region.
It is a bad signal that can be attributed to either a chemical used in the treatment of water at the Water Board. "It is not absolute", he quickly interjected.
According to the UCTH Dermatologist, "this incidence can be connected with the refuse overflow you see on our streets recently".
"Paul Ifere, as an environmentalist yourself, you know that evaporation begins on the ground. Some of these dumpsters and dumpsites are soaked wet and flowing with water right into the streets. Paracetamol will kill you if you take it like this way..





Paracetamol is one of the commonest drugs used in Nigeria for pain relief or reduction of fever and as a result, is usually abused by many. However, the founder and Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Emzor Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, Dr. Stella Okoli, has said that adults should not take more than six tablets of paracetamol (acetaminophen) daily.

Speaking during the 30th anniversary of Emzor paracetamol, where a special pack was unveiled in Lagos , Dr. Okoli disclosed that most users have ‘staggered’ overdoses after taking paracetamol in other forms,
such as caffeine drinks or panadol, thereby failing to realise that the amount they have taken could be fatal in a few days.

She said 500mg tablets– the equivalent of 4g – should be the maximum daily dose, warning that any one who exceeds this dose will be putting his life in harm’s way.
Mrs Okoli, who pioneered the production of Emzor paracetamol, said people may have complaints, such as vague abdominal pain and nausea. With time, signs of liver injury – low blood sugar, low blood pH, easy bleeding, and hepatic encephalopathy- may develop.

Some will be spontaneously resolved, though untreated cases may result in death.
She explained that a damage to the liver, or hepatotoxicity, results not from paracetamol itself, but from one of its metabolites (the chemical processes that occur in a living organism to maintain life) (NAPQI), which reduces the liver’s antioxidant glutathione and damages cells in the liver, leading to liver failure.
She said:

“So, I always tell our people not to take paracetamol with alcohol. It is important to remember that, when used at therapeutic levels, paracetamol is usually safe and effective.

Scientist before now, have disproved the possibility of getting pregnant through anal sex, saying it is unlikely. Though in theory, it’s possible that it could happen if semen from the anus gets into the vagina.
However, a surprising medical revelation has seen a doctor claim that it is possible for women to become pregnant through anal sex.
A urologist at the Jersey Urology Group in Atlantic City, Dr. Brian Steixner, proves that one can get pregnant through anal sex after dealing with such a pregnancy himself.
Dr. Steixner revealed that he had treated a woman with a rare condition called ‘cloacal malformation’ when he was a medical student. A condition which only occurs in girls as they’re developing in their mother’s womb.

A woman in the US with this condition was operated on, a surgical mistake or a rare bodily reaction created an abnormal connection between her womb and her rectum.

Every month, during menstruation she reportedly bled from her anus – but her vagina was a dead-end. With vaginal penetration impossible, Dr. Steixner said that the woman only had anal sex before becoming pregnant.
However, in the case of the unfortunate woman who did get pregnant through anal sex, it was decided that a natural birth would be too risky, and so the woman underwent a C-section.
Describing it as an unusual occurrence which “blew his mind,” Dr. Steixner said after doing a whole bunch of X-rays, they determined that she got pregnant from having anal sex.
Thankfully, the condition which makes such a pregnancy possible is very rare – only in one in 50,000 people have a chance of it happening to them.

Dr. Reynolds advises walking around periodically and, if you're at
work, standing up to talk on the phone.
2. LEAVING HOSTILITY AND DEPRESSION ON CHECKED
Are you feeling stressed, hostile, or depressed? It can take a toll on
your heart.
While everyone feels this way some of the time, how you handle
these emotions can affect your heart health. “Those likely to
internalize stress are in greater danger; research has shown a
benefit to laughter and social support,” Dr. Reynolds says.
“And it’s helpful to be able to go to someone and talk about your
problems.”
3. IGNORING THE SNORING
More than a minor annoyance, snoring can be a sign of something
more serious: obstructive sleep apnea. This disorder, marked by
breathing that is interrupted during sleep, can cause blood pressure
to skyrocket.
More than 18 million Americans adults have sleep apnea, which
increases the risk of heart disease. People who are overweight or
obese are at higher risk for sleep apnea, but slim people can have it
too.
If you snore and often wake up feeling tired, talk with your doctor;
there are easy ways to screen for apnea, says Robert Ostfeld, MD,
associate professor of clinical medicine at Montefiore Medical
4. DRINKING (TOO MUCH) ALCOHOL
Sure, studies suggest a small amount of alcohol may be good for
your heart. Alas, too many over-imbibe.
Excess alcohol is linked to a greater risk of high blood pressure,
high levels of blood fats, and heart failure. In addition, the extra
calories can lead to weight gain, a threat to heart health.
If you drink, stick to no more than two drinks per day for men, and
no more than one a day for women. (One drink means a 12-ounce
beer or 4-ounce glass of wine).
5. OVEREATING
Being overweight is a major risk factor for heart disease, and 72% of
men and 64% of women in the U.S are overweight or obese.
Try to eat less, avoid oversize portions, and replace sugary drinks
with water.
Dr. Reynolds and Dr. Hochman also suggest cutting portion sizes for
high-calorie carbohydrates (think refined pastas and breads) and
watching out for foods labeled “low-fat,” which are often high in
calories.
6. EATING RED MEAT
It’s best to think of red meat as an occasional treat rather than the
foundation of a daily diet. Red meat is high in saturated fat, and
there’s also evidence that processed meat, such as bacon and hot
dogs, increases your risk of cardiovascular disease and colorectal
cancer. Ideally, less than 10% of your diet should come from
animals and animal products, Dr. Ostfeld advises.
Can’t part with the beef? Choose a lean cut of red meat and limit
your intake. “People have to know that if you want a steak a few
times a month, it’s OK,” Dr. Hochman says. “It’s what you’re eating
three times a day that’s the issue. Be in it for the long haul. Eat a
balanced diet
7. SMOKING OR LIVING WITH A SMOKER
Sure, you've heard it a million times before: Don't smoke. But it
bears repeating.
"Smoking is a total disaster for your heart," says Dr. Ostfeld.
Smoking promotes blood clots, which can block blood flow to the
heart, and contributes to plaque buildup in the arteries.
It's also a smart bomb aimed at everyone around you, Dr. Ostfeld
says. In fact, about 46,000 nonsmokers who live with a smoker die
from heart disease each year because of secondhand smoke.
8. STOPPING OR SKIPPING MEDS
Let's be honest: Taking pills is a pain. There can be side effects.
And it's easy to forget your meds, especially if you feel fine.
"High blood pressure is called the silent killer because you don't
feel it," Dr. Ostfeld says. "Saying you feel fine is not a justification
for stopping these pills."
There are 30 types of high blood pressure medications, so there are
choices if one isn't working, Dr. Hochman says. "If one medication
doesn't work, we can try something else."
8. AVOIDING FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
"The most heart-healthy diet is a plant-based diet," Dr. Ostfeld says.
That means loading up on fruits and vegetables, nuts, whole grains,
low-fat dairy, and protein, and keeping junk food to a minimum. In
fact, new federal dietary guidelines recommend that half of each
meal should be composed of fruits and vegetables.
Research has found that people who eat more than five servings of
fruits and vegetables a day had about 20% lower risk of heart
disease and stroke than people who ate less than three servings per
day.
9. IGNORING PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS
If you used to walk up three flights of stairs without a problem, but
suddenly you're short of breath after one flight or have chest
pressure, it's time to call your doctor—now. Never assume it's
because you're out of shape.
Doctors say "time is muscle," meaning the quicker you get treatment
for possible trouble, the less likely you are to have permanent
damage to your heart muscle.
"It's better for it to be much ado about nothing than sitting on a
heart attack for six hours," which is not uncommon, Dr. Ostfeld
says.

The thin sliced meat is usually seasoned with salt, pepper vegetable oil and other flavorings and is tendered by barbecuing and this process of softening using smoky flame is the unhealthy part of Suya that we want to talk about in this article.
1. Unhealthy Environments For Preparing Suya
In Nigeria, 98% of Suya spots are located in dirty environments with poor hygiene, the people making it do not always clean the meat properly before barbecuing it as they seem not to care or have limited water to wash the meat as many times as needed. Also, they use stale ingredients and sometimes meat that has overstayed in the fridge for this snack and only very sensitive customers would notice this trick.
2. Suya and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs)
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), also called polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons are a group of more than 100 different chemicals that are released from burning coal, oil, gasoline, trash, tobacco, wood, or other organic substances such as charcoal-broiled meat. Cigarette is said to contain PAHs that is why they are rated as killers.

Humans can easily get infected by consuming under-cooked beef. Taenia saginata is a beef worm that grows in the infected without obvious symptoms until it gets to the critical stage. In the later stages of contracting this zoonotic disease symptoms include weight loss, dizziness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headaches, nausea, constipation, chronic indigestion, and loss of appetite. Heavy infections may cause intestinal obstruction in humans which can be alleviated by surgery. So why go through all of these just for the love of suya?
5. Other Diseases
Leptospirosis, Brucellosis, Bubonic Plaque and Salmonellosis among others are diseases that can be gotten from eating suya. Some zoonotic diseases can be passed from the host animal to humans directly while others can be passed from consuming their products such as meat and milk.
Suya no doubt is a delicious delicacy that is had to say NO to, but if cooked carelessly, might cost you more than you bargained for. It is advised to cook/heat the Suya meat to a safe internal temperature around 80 degrees Celsius or more. Avoid adding plastics or fuels such as kerosene to the fire to make it burn better. A new simple urine test method for diagnosing malaria has been developed by a group of Nigerian scientists, in which people can now test themselves for the disease at home.
This makes it the first time urine, not blood, is used to test for malaria. With a urine test kit, one can diagnose malaria by merely putting a strip in a small container of urine. A line shows on the strip if one has the malaria parasite.
Regarded as a major milestone by the founders of this technology (Fyodor), it is unlike the old method which requires the medical laboratory scientist to carry out malaria tests.
The biotechnology firm explains that it is a one step process. You just dip a thread in the sample, leave it there for 25 minutes and read the result. It is very similar to a pregnancy test that uses urine.

In collaboration with Nigeria’s Ministry of Health, the new method has been introduced into the local market and there are plans to sell it across Africa and Asia. Both continents account for many of the 425 million malaria cases worldwide and the more than 400,000 deaths resulting from the ailment annually.The innovation gained international and local recognition after winning the inaugural 2015 Health Innovation Challenge awards in Nigeria. It was also nominated for the African Innovation Foundation (AIF) award in collaboration with the Government of Botswana.
Medical practitioners hope that now that urine test can be done at home, it will encourage people to test and confirm it is malaria before taking drugs for the ailment.
Each year, millions die of malaria in sub-Sahara Africa because of the inability to quickly diagnose and commence treatment. Many in Nigeria are reluctant to go to hospital and be tested for malaria.
Though the Nigerian Healthcare Providers Association (NHPA) has said self-medication has a potential to lead to the abuse of malaria drugs, this is definitely a milestone to help combat Malaria in Nigeria.
